Lola is retired now but she was one of my all time favorite girls !!  I affectionaltely called her Super Mom because on her 2nd litter, she whelped 8 beautiful black puppies. A couple days later, my other yellow girl Maggie whelped 6 chubby yellow puppies. The only problem was, Maggie did not take to being a new mom and refused care of her 6 beautiful yellow puppies but Lola who was set up next to Maggie's whelping pool was more than eager to offer assistance. One by one I put Maggie's yellow babies in with Lola. Maggie was more than happy to go about her daily business outside catching moles in our yard. Here Lola is in this photo so happy and proud to be taking care of 13 very hungery babies.
Through raising all 13 puppies, Lola never got tired of her duties. She wisely taught all 13 of her puppies how to retrieve, how to respect their elders and how to be goofy, playful puppies.
Lola will always hold a special place in my heart. She really was a special Labrador.
On Lola's final litter, she whelped a singlton puppy named Farrah. She showed just as much patience and care in raising Farrah, though her milk dried up early on so our chocolate girl Layla who had a litter of 8 chocolate puppies around the same age as Farrah, offered to allow Farrah into the " Chocolate Club "
